With significant national investment happening in cycling and active travel infrastructure many Local and Transport Authorities are wondering how they can now get people to use it?
Unfortunately, building it does not necessarily guarantee that they will come and there is a public engagement job that needs to be undertaken in order to promote uptake of active travel in communities and workplaces. This is where Feel Good Hub – Active Travel comes in.
FGH - Active Travel is based on our twice award nominated Feel Good Hub health and wellbeing platform which was originally implemented, and phenomenally successful, for HSBC UK Bank. Now we have re-packaged Feel Good Hub for use in communities to support the uptake of Active Travel.
It works by leveraging social connection to facilitate behaviour change - delivering fun, engaging and educational Active Travel related challenges and experiences for communities and workplaces.
Local Authorities, Transport Partnerships and any organisation responsible for a community of people can use FGH – Active Travel as a fun and engaging way to drive awareness, participation and behaviour change in relation to Active Travel.
Experiences can be co-designed and delivered with specialist partner organisations such as local Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprises, activity providers, specialist charities etc to help promote their positive agenda and engage the public to:
Create super local, engaging and uplifting active and sustainable travel campaigns. Leverage public interest in national campaigns and celebrations such as National Cycle to Work Week.
Include specific communities and groups by engaging them in co-design of their own challenges.
Our system can accommodate a huge range of collective and individual experience formats to encourage participation in active travel. Here are just a few examples
Distance covered (Walk, Cycle, Wheel),
Time based (Cycle to Work Week),
Substitution (Take the Bike Instead),
Activity Streaks (One-a-Day),
Photo collections (Collect local POI’s & Natural Environment)
Social approval is a much more powerful driver of behaviour change and much more affordable for Local Authorities than physical rewards.
Stimulate behaviour change by creating social virtue out of active and sustainable travel choices.
Create the data and the anecdotal evidence and case studies required to demonstrate improving uptake of active and sustainable travel in your area.
Use this as evidence of public usage and uptake of your sustainable and active travel infrastructure investments.
