The world of transportation is changing rapidly. Our response to climate change requires us to reduce our dependency on private car and to substitute this with more environmentally friendly, socially inclusive and healthier ways to travel. 

However, the use of private car is deeply embedded in our culture, our infrastructure and our decision making which means that shifting to more sustainable transport options is a major societal challenge on every conceivable front.

There is no one size to fit all and no single solution – transport is an entire ecosystem of complex systems and networks in its own right - this is why we support a holistic Public Mobility approach to changing travel and transport behaviours.

Traditional transport-led approaches see this issue as an ‘infrastructure and information’ problem. Solutions to date have focused on planning, booking and payment convenience on the premise that this will facilitate switch from private car to public and sustainable transport alternatives.

This linear thinking has led to a preponderance of solutions such as journey planners and MaaS tools that don't really meet the needs of people or policy makers. This is a fundamentally flawed approach that places information-push above an understanding of human needs in solution design.

If we are truly going to change transport behaviours – it’s time for a fundamentally different approach based on a deeper understanding of behaviour change. One that focuses on human engagement, comprehension and the power of social interaction in driving behaviour change. 

Our solutions, systems and design approaches focus on demystifying the transport network, contextualising complex information and encouraging behaviour change in a social rather than individual context.
